ASKING FOR OPINIONS

Meetings often begin with the presentation of some information and then a request for opinions. To ask people for their opinions, you can say:

  • What does everyone think about…?

    1. What does everyone think about my idea?

      1. It's a good idea but...

    2. What does everyone think about heading out for a drink after work on Friday?

      1. I think it's still too dangerous to be in a group...


  • What was your opinion of the X back then?

  • What is your opinion of the future of X?

    1. What is your opinion of the future of Kubernetes?

    2. What is your opinion of the future of the climate here on Earth?

  • How do you feel about...?

  • What would you say about...?

  • What are your thoughts on...?

  • Could you comment on...?







  • In your opinion...

    1. In your opinion, what is the best way to implement comprehensive cyber security?


  • What was your opinion of the [protests|meeting] yesterday?

    1. I haven't formed an opinion yet.


  • What do you think about X?

    1. What do you think about [the new team member, Svetlana]?

  • What would you recommend?


  • What do you think about the broken lights on the bridge?

    1. I haven't heard anything about that. What can you tell me?

  • Do you think it will be a good fit for us?





After one person has expressed his or her opinion, you can say “Thanks,” to acknowledge the opinion, then use these phrases to ask for more people to respond:

  • What does everyone else think?

  • Are there any other comments?

  • Are there any additional comments?

  • Would anybody like to add something else?

  • Does anyone have something else to [say,offer]?


If there’s a specific person who you would like to hear from, you can ask him or her directly by using these phrases:

  • John, can we get your input?

  • Would you like to add anything, Gerda?
